Mary and Scott’s House of Straw

We dreamed of living in southern Utah since we were married in 1982. After exploring the region for many years, we discovered the center of our universe was Torrey, Utah. We bought ten acres of land with water rights, a rudimentary road and access to city water and power. The best thing was the beauty of the place. You can’t beat the view, the stars at night, the line of cottonwood trees to the west and the clean air. We had a six-year adventure building our strawbale house. Now we’re moving on to other projects: a strawbale greenhouse, workshops, high-desert gardening in deer country, llama packing, photography and more. We’ll do our best to record it all here.
